So LifeWay launches their new digital music technology service on Monday, February 9. What is it? Well, brace yourself... It's an online Christian music service that lets you pay to download specific tracks, keys and parts of song recordings that you can use with your church congregation, youth group, cell group and whatever other groups Christians are promoting these days.
In short, a music director or musician can access the music service, find the songs they want to use, choose the key the song is in and also which style the song will be. Some churches need music for a full rock band while others only use a piano. Surprisingly, the music isn't much more expensive than iTunes or AmazonMP3 with tracks ranging from $1.49 to $1.99. It's a pretty creative way to make money and probably a service in-demand within the church sector.
I just wonder how long it will take mainstream/secular music to try something like this for TV/Film placements. Imagine if bands recorded multiple versions of their songs to cater to Music Directors in Television/Film, making it easier for them to place the band's music and making them money. Here is an article about the service from Nashville Business Journal: http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/stories/2009/02/02/daily46.html

You mean like one of the dozens of music placement services who keep big databases of different versions of songs? Oh, and the idea of bands making money is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteYeah like that, except way cooler b/c it's for Christians.
ReplyDeleteChristians ALWAYS come up with the most original ideas first. Mostly because they hear directly from the maker of this earth.
